Dungeon Siege II - Boss - The Archmage of Valdis

Fantasy game art from Dungeon Siege II.

Valdis has a circle of powerful mages in his regime, the leader of which is his Archmage. He wields magic more powerfully than any other sorcerer in all of Aranna. The Archmage is the oldest of the Dark Wizards, a race of undead creatures who sustain themselves with powerful magic spells and the fungus voldane.

The Archmage is deeply corrupt, and seeks power for his own sake. His mental and psychic power is great, but he has very little physical strength. Thin and reedy, he relies on magic to keep him safe. He is a coldly intimidating person. The Archmage is Valdis' right-hand man and advisor, and may be the one responsible for maintaining Valdis' enhanced physical size and power. The Archmage is always by Valdis' side and serves him now as he once served Zaramoth himself.

  • The Archmage has various powerful attacks, all of which can dispel any helpful enchantments ("buffs") on characters, as well as harm multiple characters at the same time. His powerful spell that creates ghostly rings and levitates bones into the air has a very wide, almost inescapable radius.
  • Perhaps the most interesting attack is the crystal barrier spell the Archmage can place over the various Agallan Obelisks in the chamber.
    • Normally, a character can touch an Obelisk to receive a temporary aura of invulnerability that can last quite a long time. With the crystal barrier over the obelisk, the character must not only run over to break the barrier (wasting precious time) but the spell can convert the powerful Agallan magic into a strange, spiky bolt.
    • This bolt travels slowly, but if it hits it will either dispel an Agallan Invulnerability enchantment granted by an obelisk, or kill outright any character not so protected -- even one rendered invulnerable by the "+drlife" console cheat code!
    • Curiously, a very short character (such as a small pet) can have the bolt pass harmlessly overhead, especially if they do not rear up to attack.

Titan Quest - Alternate Hero Skins (AllSkins Mod)

Fantasy game art from Titan Quest . An art book, The Art of Titan Quest , is also available. This post showcases the AllSkins mod (now included in the unofficial fan patch ). Normally, Titan Quest has only two hero models with no variation: Male and Female caucasian. The AllSkins mod is a free third-party mod that lets players choose from hundreds of fantasy "skins" for their character. Here are two basic Titan Quest models in their "underwear" (when a character is wearing no armour). Incidentally, it took two years before someone managed a game modification to remove the skirt . Here are two characters modified with the AllSkins mod (now included in the unofficial fan patch ). AllSkins Mod version 0.7

The Bard's Tale - Dun Ailinne Treasure Map

Fantasy art from The Bard's Tale fantasy role playing game. This cutscene features dialogue from the Houton blacksmith concerning his treasure map. Although the Bard being scammed is entirely in keeping with the overall tone of the game world, the treasure map was in fact a good one, as Dun Ailinne hides, among other things, the Golden Spyglass, which increases all future treasure finds by 10%.
