The main quest in Oblivion -- to end the demonic invasion of Mehrunes Dagon, close the Oblivion Gates, and thereby save the world from what is commonly known as the "Oblivion Crisis" -- comes to a frantic and exciting conclusion with the quest "Light the Dragonfires".
The final showdown occurs in the Temple District of the Imperial City. Oblivion Gates open there and endless sorties of demons invade. As the Champion of Cyrodiil escorts emperor Martin Septim toward the entrance of the Temple to light the dragonfires that would banish the demons back to their world, they run into the gigantic manifestation of Mehrunes Dagon himself. Once inside the Temple, Martin Septim calls on Akatosh, the Dragon God of Time, to defeat Mehrunes Dagon.
